Edo Hemp Floral Tote Bag

The floral print fabric is naturally dyed hemp from the Edo period in Japan. The period in Japanese history lasted from 1603 to 1868….
This is definitely the oldest fabric that we have ever used. I was told this fabric is 150-200 years old…..
We have paired the vintage fabric with a new naturally sumi dyed sashiko fabric.
The inside lining is a rigid sulphur dyed black selvedge pin stripe cotton fabric.
We were able to make 2 bags, however I only took pictures of one of the bags because they are almost identical….
