Kakishibu Tote Bag
Width at top 51cm
Hand dyed selvedge Japanese canvas with natural kakishibu. We spent a few weeks dyeing and hand painting different sections of the neppy canvas fabric to create different tones. We stitched the sections together and created this patchwork tote bag.
The lining is a Japanese cotton fabric depicting Fu-jin and Rai-jin, the Japanese gods of wind and thunder.
The base is a heavy indigo wabashi selvedge fabric.
The trip at the top and on the front pocket is a vintage fabric weaving from Japan.
The inside tag is hand sumi painted and stitched with natural indigo thread.
